Don Dumond is one of the leading figures of American archaeology. Here, and with his active assistance, I explore his long, productive, and continuing saga. Together we trace his youth, his military career and remarkable marriage and then move on to an exploration of the formation of his areas of expertise in the archaeology of Mesoamerica and Alaska and his fruitful interest in human demography.
